Advanced Serializing in PHP: Speed it up!

Abstract

Building an API for the biggest retailer of Switzerland had some interesting challenges. We had extremely complex data not meant for a digital age. The API bottleneck was and probably always will be; serializing. It was a long journey for us to get the most performance out of this. We tried every serialization in PHP known to man, and in the end… We are proud of what we’ve accomplished and I want to share the journey and deep dive into serialization with you all.

And in the end: A colleague wrote php-to-go so that we could GO beyond PHP, using PHP and GoLang together, for an amazing performance boost.
